RUMPELSTILTSKIN
SHOW SYNOPSIS

Conceived and Written by Don Kukla
Music Written and Arranged by Michael McGill
Original Staging by Michael McGill

Missoula Children’s Theatre presents RUMPELSTILTSKIN, an original adaptation of the classic children's story. A strange little gnome appears from here, there and everywhere. He will spin your straw into gold...for a price. If his price is too steep, you must guess his name... RUMPELSTILTSKIN!

Join in the fun of Festival Time and help Clara guess the mischievous little gnome's name. You will also encounter a Jester, Villagers, Wizards, a Queen, a King, Knights and a band of busy little Bees. This heart-warming tale of mischief and friendship answers more questions than just "What is that little man's name?”

RECAP of YOUTH PROGRAMS

It’s a long road to Taos – but not for the arts world. Here students are invited to audition, act and experience exciting, world class performances and the visual arts. The Taos Center for the Arts (TCA) 2008’s events include two performances in February, one in April, and one in July.

Hudson Vagabond Puppets performed two school shows for over 500 students on February 7, 2008. The giant puppets dance and act in narrated ballets to two of beloved Beatrix Potter stories with the music of William Walton.

On February 28, the Madcap Variety Show presented two shows for over 500 students. These three veteran vaudeville performers combine their talents into one action-packed show of hilarity, dexterity and live music.

April 7, Theatreworks/USA performed a delightful children’s play with music, “Henry & Mudge,” based on the stories of the popular books by Cynthia Rylant. This award winning company is celebrating 45 years of creating and presenting theatre for children and families which have been brought to 80 million people since its inception. Two shows were presented for over 500 students.

“The Jungle,” a children’s art show, will be April 14-15, 2008 at the Stables Gallery. The TCA Children’s Art Show has been held annually for over 20 years.

Missoula Children’s Theater returns to the TCA July 12 for two public performances. This is their 17th year coming to the TCA. Over 90 children audition to perform and most are cast for the show. They rehearse all week and will present a high-energy musical version of “Rumpelstiltskin.”

Every year the TCA brings nationally renowned performers to the youth of Taos. The teachers and students look forward to the TCA Schedule with eager anticipation every season. The 2008 shows are already booked with 1,800 students from Enos Garcia, Penasco, Eagle Nest, Yaxche, Charter, Ranchos, Country Day and Taos Pueblo Schools.

By offering authentic arts experiences and participation, TCA’s youth programs address development stages of children of all ages, through self-expression and discipline. The importance of process as well as outcome of the product are emphasized, and positive individual and group activity are inspired as youth celebrate different cultures and traditions. Arts programs create confidence and boost self esteem, and can make a significant difference in the lives of our young people.

Youth programs are an important part of the Taos Center for the Arts’ (TCA) cultural opportunities for Taos and the surrounding communities. The TCA provides a variety of arts programs for youth. These include school performances and workshops, lectures, art classes and youth art shows, demonstrations, and interactive programs. The TCA supports local children’s theater. The Taos Community Auditory is available for schools and youth groups to use with technical assistance and professional volunteer staff.  These high quality programs provide students with a way to experience excellent theater and visual art programs and performance.

The title sponsor for TCA Presents 2007-08 is Centinel Bank of Taos. The TCA solicits sponsors for these activities so that they can be offered free to Taos youth. For information regarding sponsorship call the TCA office at 758-2052.
